SETTEL THOMAS EUGENE

                                                 Artist Statement:

These are original works of art that I have signed on the front, sealed and dated. My intent is to capture the sensation and atmosphere that inspired my image. They represent a Ltd. Edition Giclée Series.  The artwork has been printed on Archival quality textured paper. The Fine Art paper used include Washi, Kozo, Arches and Hahnemühle.  These papers were created from natural fibers such as Mulberry, Hemp and Cotton for superb preservation.  The Papers are warm, white, environmentally friendly and acid free.  Some of The artworks have Deckled edges, making them suitable for floating over or under a matte.  They are intimate and small in scale.  I am passionate about scenic painting and the creative process.

My work is influenced by the subtle nuances of light and texture that can be found in nature.  I am inspired by the endless movement of water, wind, sunlight, reflections and shadows....evolving textures ...and all that comes with the gorgeous, vibrant colors of nature...particularly as the sun rises and sets....

Guanajuato, uplifting 2

Guanajuato, April Noon

                                                                                                                                GUANAJUATO, MEXICO

The city has been designated as a masterpiece of human creative genius and a  UNESCO World Heritage site since 1988. Today, Guanajuato is one of only 1.052 properties that have been given the distinction of being on the World Heritage List.

The city is located in central Mexico in a narrow valley, which makes its streets narrow and winding. Most are alleys that cars cannot pass through, and some are long sets of stairs up the mountainsides. Many of the city’s thoroughfares are partially or fully underground. The historic center has numerous small plazas and colonial-era mansions, churches and civil constructions built using pink or green stone.

It's known for its silver mining history and beautiful Baroque  colonial architecture. Its network of narrow streets, alleyways and tunnels is typified by the Callejón del Beso (Alley of the Kiss), so named because the balconies are close enough for a couple to reach across and kiss.  In a former granary, the Alhóndiga de Granaditas is an art and local history museum with pre-Columbian exhibits.

Giclée

The word giclée (pronounced “ghee-clay”) is a French term, which literally translates into “spraying of ink.” A giclée print is produced by a very precise spraying of ink. In the giclée process, an original artwork is digitized and the scan or transparency of the original art is stored in a computer file. The computer is the controlling element of a highly specialized precision ink jet, which sprays several million droplets per second onto paper or canvas mounted on a rotating drum. The material printed upon is normally the type of medium an artist may use for an original painting (watercolor paper or cotton/poly canvas, for instance).

The artist is an integral part of the giclée printing process. A print is made, the artist “red lines” the proof, changes are made and another print is made. This process continues until the artist is satisfied with the result. Once the final settings are decided, the final print is made, approved by the artist and the edition is created.
